My trip to SF will be by way of Oxnard, CA where I will spend a couple of nights with our dear old friends, Mary and Lance. We go way back to when Mike and Mary worked together at Stephen and Brady Advertising in 1973 or so. We are so fortunate to have so many wonderful long-time friends in our lives.
The 7-hour drive was not bad but once you get to San Bernardino, it is intense, heavy freeway traffic all of the way to the coast and through the northern suburbs of LA. And there are some fast and aggressive drivers. I sure felt like a weary traveler when I arrived.
We spent the evening catching up, sharing stories, and making and eating dinner. I always enjoy talking plants with Mary, as she has a beautiful garden with a focus on succulents, many that we have shared with each other through the years. They also have lots of birds coming to their feeders that makes it even more interesting. It was a very nice evening and I'm happy to be here.
Mary and I went to downtown Ventura and browsed some of the shops on Monday afternoon, looking at shoes, some antiques and things for the home, and lots of girly things. For lunch, we had a swirly cup - you choose your favors of frozen yogurt and top it with whatever goodies you choose, then you pay by weight. I had a salted caramel and creme brûlée topped with coconut and pecans.
On our way back home, we picked up some take and bake pizza for dinner. And then we talked some more over a glass of wine and that tasty pizza.
